If you love wildlife, then we are lucky enough to have two nature reserves just a short drive away.
From Fieldgate it’s easy enough to drive, cycle or even walk to the RPSGB Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve. The sheltered inlet of the harbour is worth visiting all the year round, with each season offering an opportunity to see some of the extensive range of birds and other wildlife that visit.
The Pagham Harbour website offers plenty of information, as does the Visitor’s Centre, where you will find free parking and toilets. There are short and long walks from the Visitor’s Centre, so something to suit all ages and abilities. Dogs are also welcome, but you need to keep them on a lead.
But there’s more! The Selsey peninsula is now home to another nature reserve – Medmerry Nature Reserve, which opened in 2014. Work continues to develop this new nature reserve, which skirts the seashore, around the bottom of the Selsey peninsula. There will be a range of walking and cycle routes, with improved accessibility for anyone who is less physically able. Take a look at their website and plan your visit for 2015 to see how it is developing.
